Our Approach to Reducing CO₂ Emissions
Our three-fold approach to achieve net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050
Written by Manuela Mylonas | February 19, 2025
Construction is an energy-intensive industry. It accounts for around 35 to 40 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions. The decarbonization of this sector is only possible if the entire value chain commits to it. We are determined to reduce our carbon footprint and foster an environmentally responsible construction industry. Our targets for achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050 are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The SBTi is an organization that enables companies worldwide to do their part in combating the climate crisis by setting science-based CO₂ reduction targets to achieve net-zero by 2050. It is a partnership between The Carbon Disclosure Project, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature.

"Sustainability has been anchored within Hilti for decades and has shaped the behavior of our company significantly. We aim to be our customers’ best partner for sustainability, not only with the solutions we offer, but also with how we operate."
Peter Rupp, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Hilti
To reach our ambitious goal, our sustainability program follows a three-fold approach:

Analyze the Status Quo
We create data transparency on our CO₂ emissions throughout our entire value chain. This enables us to make informed, data-driven decisions.

Build Innovative Solutions
We design with less material for the same applications and with modularity in mind. This allows for reusability of components or tools.

Convert to More Sustainable Options
We convert to more sustainable options where possible when it comes to, among other topics, material sourcing, product technologies or shifting our car fleet to low-emission vehicles.

This comprehensive sustainability program ensures we address key areas of impact which drive meaningful progress. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to lead the way towards achieving our goal of net-zero by 2050.
