Sustainability

Environment. People. Society.

At Hilti, we want to contribute to a more sustainable world by operating our business with less of a burden on the environment, to greater health and safety in construction and to a fairer society. Our long-term success can only be ensured through a business strategy that values ecological, people and social aspects along with economic factors.

The guiding principle of building a better future has guided us for almost two decades. Considering the dangers posed by climate change and the social challenges that go with it, we must step up our efforts. We are taking our sustainability efforts to the next level in close cooperation with the Hilti Foundation.

The pillars of our strategy

Sustainability at Hilti means aligning our business to be more environmentally friendly and to make a more positive contribution to society. Our holistic strategy is based on three equally important pillars:

ENVIRONMENT

We Take Responsibility for the Environmental Impacts of our Business

Our goals to reduce the impact of day-to-day business are ambitious. We became CO₂ neutral within our own operations by the end of 2023. In 2022, we enhanced our contribution to reducing carbon emissions across the entire value chain and have committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This is in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement; to achieve net zero by 2050.

Our plans for meeting the challenge

PEOPLE

We Care for People: Customers, Team Members and Partners

Our goal is to continue offering products, services and software that focus on user health and safety and  building safety. We also take many important steps to keep our employees safe and healthy.

Our focus on our people and colleagues

SOCIETY

We are Committed to a Better Society and High Ethical Standards

Our goal is to create social impact at scale, while we uphold ourselves and the industry to the highest standards of business ethics. To do this, we work hand-in-hand with a strong partner, The Hilti Foundation.

OUR COMMITMENT TO NET-ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS WITH SBTI

With our SBTi commitment, we contribute to the sustainable transformation of the construction industry.

Jahangir Doongaji
CEO, Hilti Group

Hilti Group has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. To achieve our ambitions, we will invest triple digit million CHF in the coming years.

Beyond our ambition to become CO₂-neutral by 2023, we are also tackling emissions outside of our own operations on our way to becoming net zero.

We made this significant promise to support our customers in the race towards decreasing their carbon footprint, committing to set both near- and long-term targets.

Success starts with collaboration

Regular and open communication with our internal and external stakeholders is important to further develop our efforts. In 2023, we were once more awarded Gold status by EcoVadis, an international, independent environmental rating agency. It assesses the sustainability performance of companies in four categories: environment, labor practices, fair business practices and sustainable procurement. Our goal is clear and the Gold status motivates us to further improve.
